Background
Puntland Youth and Social Development Association (PSA) is local non-governmental, non- profit organization established in 2002 by a group of enthusiastic young educated members of society and it is based in Puntland state – Somalia
In 2020/2021 Puntland Youth and Social Development Association (PSA) together with UNICEF and Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is implementing Diversion program that will respond to the needs of children in conflict with law in Garowe by ensuring there are structured and capacitated standard diversion program, the sole mandate will be to facilitate children’s involvement in addressing and resolving grievances by taking responsibility of their actions; vocational and educational opportunities; building healthy peer to peer relationships; community and family based support network, community awareness on diversion programme including engaging youth in mentorships programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
The Youth and Communication Outreach Officer will be responsible but not limited to the following:
- Identify and secure speaking and public engagement opportunities for PSA amongst different stakeholders.
- Coordinateactivities within the organization to support documentation and sharing of key lessons and achievements.
- Maintain a close working relationship with representatives of the community organizations, government agencies and other relevant agencies.
- Oversee an effective outreach effort, with an emphasis on reaching out to local underserved populations
- Listen and communicate effectively in welcoming a diversity of opinions, needs, and cultures
- Work with project coordinator to constantly improve and enhance the services offered by PSA
- Establish and maintain relevant contacts with media/decision-makers and networks etc.
- Formulate messages and produce materials on the web as well as for media/advocacy activities
- Other tasks related to the work in the Communication department and delegated by line manager
- Ensure program results are appropriately communicated among the local communities to help spread positive news while maintaining program integrity and adhering to security guidelines
- Planning and coordinating outreach activities that are intended to identify, capture the attention and interest of, and foster involvement of at-risk youth (and their families) Performs other duties as assigned
- Developing linkages and maintaining effective working relationships with other community services/agencies to facilitate contacts and services for youth.
Skills required
- BA or equivalent in Public relation, Social Science, Social Work, justice restoration related programs
- Minimum 3 years of senior level experience in protection programmes
- Strong analytical and strategic policy development experience
- Knowledge of and capacity to work on Office applications
- Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization
- Knowledge and ability to speak Somali and English
- Ability to work with a team and to operate as a team leader
