ADVOCACY INTERVENTIONS MADE ON SGBV- PREVENTION AND RESPONSE WORKSHOP HELD IN QARDO

The workshop was attended by members of MOWDAFA, local council, governor’s office representatives, legal aid, police, MOJ, IDP committees, elders and sheikhs. The workshop had a total of 25 participants

 

The day started with a prayer by one of the participants

 

Welcoming remarks were done by program coordinator Mr. Abdihakiim Ahmed Mohammed; he welcomed the MOWDAFA regional coordinator, Sahra Said to open the workshop officially

 

Objectives

  • To form common understanding of gender –based violence issues
  • To asses and increase our knowledge based on issues of gender based violence
  • Come up with empowerment strategies  that will sustain issues of GBV
  • To identify best practices of reversing/reducing GBV through programs and strategies

Most the topics were covered and the participants were very active and they were able to share most the information with the presenters.

One of the recommendations that came was that we should lobby and advocate for laws and policies to take into consideration the different cultural setups that are found in different parts of the country because culture always inhibit implementations of laws and policies
