Qardo Floods – Emergency Response

On the 7th May 2020, PSA launched the first phase of NFIs kits distribution to support 600 families; it also included 500 families selected for cash assistance where the money will be credited to their mobile-phone accounts.

The launch was attended by the MPs, PSA chairman and director, minister for women and family affairs, deputy minister for the Interior, minister of environment and climate change and the mayor of Gardo including other government officials and representatives. They applauded UNHCR for their noble support and consideration in helping and assisting the floods affected families in Qardho, they also recognized PSA’s role in partnering with UNHCR on the same intervention.

The distribution exercise was fully done through the list of beneficiaries provided by the registration committee that was mandated to select the households that deserved assistance based on their needs and level of vulnerability, in the two days of distribution we managed to assist 145 families on the first day and on the second day 130 families benefited, the total number of household that received help were 275 HH.

The recipients were families selected and registered across the IDPs and refugee camps in Qardho including host communities, each family were provided with 2 blankets, 2 mats, 2 Jerry-cans, 1 tent, 1 carton of kitchen utensils and 3 bar soaps.
We plan to conclude the first phase as soon as possible which will be followed by the second phase.
